Ayotunde Ayobello
Oil on canvas
A modern meditation on the biblical parable, this painting reimagines the Prodigal Son not in a distant land, but on the quiet hills of San Francisco—alone, bent low, cloaked in sorrow and humility. Though physically surrounded by beauty, the son is emotionally and spiritually displaced, bowed under the weight of guilt, longing, and unspoken needs. The uneven stones lining the path hint at the difficult road home, but also the grace that awaits him.
This piece is a meditation on the tension between worldly success, the ache of estrangement and the miracle of return. It gently reminds us that no matter how far we wander, we are never beyond the reach of compassion, that our true identity is not found in our failures, but in the mercy of the One who waits with open arms.
